Budget 2014: Jaitley aims to make roads safer for women, announces schemes for the girl child
The Finance Minister also lamented apathy towards the girl child and announced 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana'.

New Delhi: At a time when there is growing demand for steps to ensure safety of women in the country, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, in his Budget, announced various initiatives for the same. He also announced schemes for women empowerment and for the girl child.

In an attempt to make road transport safer for women, Jaitley announced Rs 50,000 crore for the Road Transport Ministry. He said the Road Transport Ministry will ensure that the amount is used to make public transport safer for women.

The Finance Minister also lamented apathy towards the girl child and announced 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana'. The government has set aside Rs 100 crore for the project.

He added that schemes for education of the girl child will be launched soon.

The Finance Minister announced setting up of a Crisis Management Centre for women in Delhi, the money for which will be provided from the Nirbhaya fund.
