Police have arrested a cab driver in Bengaluru in connection with the abduction and attempted rape of a 25-year old woman, an attack which was caught on CCTV.
Police sources said the 24-year-old cab driver, Akshay, has confessed he was the man seen in the footage lifting and carrying off the woman from outside her paying guest accommodation.
Sources also said he was an accused in an earlier case of attempt to murder. Police initially detained three men from the locality for questioning before they zeroed in on Akshay.
The girl, a native of Manipur born and brought up in the city, was abducted while she was on a call in front of her paying guest hostel in the city.
She was taken to an under-construction building nearby where the man allegedly tried to rape her. The incident took place at Katriguppe in South Bengaluru on April 23 and was captured by a CCTV.
The victim said she fought him and escaped after biting the abductor's hand.
"I started screaming and crying. But, nobody came to my rescue. Finally, I bit his hands, freed myself and ran towards my PG accommodation," she said.
City Police Commissioner N S Megharikh said a police two-wheeler patrol had gone to the spot on the day to ask about the incident but neither the woman nor the PG owner gave any complaint.
