Ahmedabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday is questioning the suspect of the fake encounters in Gujarat in 2002 and suspended IPS officer DG Vanzara.
Vanzara is being questioned over his resignation letter where he had hit out at the former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah and blamed him for destroying the state police force with his policies.
Vanzara had also accussed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi of being under the 'evil influence' of Shah, and letting him and other police officers down. He had said that he had only followed government policy in the encounter cases.
"I, along with my officers stood beside the government like bulwark whenever it faced existential crisis in the past. We expected the government to reciprocate and stand firmly by officers which to my surprise could not happen," he said in his 10-page resignation letter written from inside the Sabarmati Central Jail where he is presently lodged.
Vanzara had also said that he had remained silent for all these years as he regarded Modi as his 'God'. "I maintained silence for so long because of my faith in and highest respect for Modi, whom I adore like god. But, I am sorry to say that my god could not rise to the occasion under the evil influence of Amit Shah," he said.
Vanzara has been accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh, Tulsiram Prajapati and Ishrat Jahan fake encounter cases.
