New Delhi: Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday said that the Centre should help in ensuring the establishment of South Korean company Posco's Rs 52,000-crore steel plant in the state.
"I told the Prime Minister that the Centre should see that the project comes through," PTI quoted Patnaik as saying.
"Everybody is interested in the project," he added.
When asked whether he would hold talks with people opposed to the setting up of the Posco project near Paradip on the lines of his parleys with protestors in Kalinga Nagar,
Patnaik added that the district administration is in talks with the people who were opposing the Posco project.
"I am always open for talks to defuse any tension to see that the project progresses. As chief minister, I want more progress and prosperity for the state," he said.
"I will examine the proposal," Patnaik said when he was asked whether he would convene an all-party meeting to discuss the matter.
As to whether Posco could be asked to choose some other site for its project, Patnaik said the firm had come here to set up a port-based project.
"The company wanted it to be a port-based one," he said.
The administration is dealing with people facing displacement to ensure they were appropriately rehabilitated. The state's resettlement and rehabilitation policy was one of the best in the country, he asserted.
