KOZHIKODE:  The extension of the Kerala Sustainable Urban Development Project (KSUDP), funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), is all set to get the Union Government’s approval in a couple of weeks.According to KSUDP officials, the  project will be extended for two more years till June 2014. The decision to extend the project was taken after the State failed to implement projects worth Rs 1422.5 crore in the stipulated time-frame of five years, which it had agreed with the Manila-based lending agency in the year 2007. The official data show that less than 50 percentage of the total fund has been utilised on various projects under the KSUDP so far.“According to the 2007 agreement, the closing date of the loan is June 30, 2012. As many of the proposed projects under the KSUDP are yet to be completed and some other projects in the stage of tendering process, the State Government has decided to extend the project and now only the official notification from the Central Government is awaited. The development which we envisaged during the commencement of the project five years ago would be achieved with the extension,” said, A L Charles, KSUDP, Deputy Project Director (Infrastructure).
