New Delhi: Chandigarh Administration on Monday constituted a two member committee headed by Deputy Commissioner, R K Rao to inquire into the incident of collapse of a concrete shed in the Grain Market, which left two dead.
The committee has been asked to submit its report as early as possible, but not later than one month, an official release said on Monday.
Superintending Engineer (B and R) Krishanjit Singh would be its other member. The committee will go into the reasons of the shed caving in.
The committee will also suggest corrective and precautionary measures to be adopted in respect of other buildings and sheds in the Grain market complex.
A day after two people were killed when a roof collapsed in the biggest vegetable market here, the local administration today said it would carry out a survey of all buildings in the city to check whether they have any structural problems.
"We will be carrying out survey of all buildings shortly to assess if there are any structural deficiencies. This process will be taken up as a campaign throughout the city," Chandigarh's home secretary Krishan Mohan, who visited the site this morning, was quoted by PTI.
If any building or structure is found unsafe it would be got vacated to avoid tragedies like that of yesterday, he said.
The two buildings adjoining to the site of the roof collapse site would be sealed and a proper survey of rest of the buildings in the area would be conducted to assess their safety, Mohan added.
A Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory team would also inspect the site, he said.

Though the administration has ordered an inquiry into the incident, Mohan indicated that one of the factors leading to the collapse of the roof of the shed could be drilling work carried out by the shop owners to install electrical fittings and telephones inside the pillars holding the roof.
"You can see that spaces have been created inside the pillars. The real picture would emerge after the inquiry, but it can be one of the reasons, though not conclusive," he said.
However, president of the association, Digvijay Singh alleged that repeated complaints about dilapidated structure failed to evoke any response from the administration, which earns huge sums of money each year by way of market fee from the area.
He claimed that they had sent several memoranda and made verbal requests to repair the structure, which leaks during rains, but no action had been taken.
Meanwhile, Mohan said that both short term and long term measures were being taken so that traders who conduct auction in the market do not suffer owing to the administration's plans for the area.
Earlier Monday, the personnel of ITBP conducted fresh searches at the collapsed site before finally getting orders from the administration to raze the collapsed roof, second portion of which also collapsed after midnight.
The personnel of the National Disaster Rescue Force of the ITBP led by Vice Commandant Surender Khatri were carrying out the operation.
Home Guards and other personnel of police force swung into action in the morning and removed gunny bags carrying fruits and vegetables from under the collapsed roof.
Two persons were killed and 13 were injured when the roof of the city's biggest vegetable cum fruit market collapsed last evening while at least 50 persons had a narrow escape.
The local administration had called off the rescue operation late last night in consultation with the army which was also assisting them after five hours of work, saying no more people could be trapped in the debris.
