Bombay Chess Association is unhappy with the importance being given to the Bournvita Chess Tournament.

Mumbai:The Bournvita Chess Tournament, after having been played for the last 11 years, has been suddenly been called off.

Ironically the Bombay Chess Association is said to be unhappy with the importance being given to this event, which used to attract over 2,330 children.

Under-14 Commonwealth Champion, Aditya Udeshi who has been a regular at the tournament says, "I am feeling sad but I cannot do anything because of infighting in the association."

The tournament, seen as Olympic level competition, started in 1994 and has served as a platform for budding chess players.

The 12- day tournament has also been responsible for giving chances to coaches and arbiters as well.

Professional chess players have also reacted angrily to the developments.

International Women Master and five times National Champion, Bhagyashree Thipsay said she feels very sad that the tournament is not being held.

While officials from the chess association refused to speak on the matter, chess lovers are concerned about how the game is being ruined by the very body that's been created to preserve it.

What's your reaction?
