As many as three security personnel were killed and 14 others sustained injuries in a gunfight with Maoists near the Bijapur-Sukma border in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. The injured personnel were taken to Raipur, nearly 400 km from Sukma for treatment.
The encounter took place when the security forces were working to establish a security camp. Naviev Security Camp was established in Tekalgudem village, the border area of District Sukma/Bijapur earlier today to curb Naxal activity and provide basic facilities to the people of the area.
After the camp was set up, Maoists opened fire on the CoBRA/STF/DRG force patrolling in the Jonaguda-Aliguda area. The attack came within 24 hours of the camp getting operationalised.
The security forces retaliated and gave a befitting reply to the Maoist firing, prompting them to run and take cover in the forest.
In the said encounter, 3 soldiers were killed and 14 others injured. The injured soldiers are said to be out of danger and are being sent to Raipur for treatment.
In December 2023, one personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed while another was injured as Maoists opened fire on them while they were returning from an outpost in Sukma.
The incident took place in the morning in Bedre village under the Jagargunda police station area in Sukma when a team of the CRPF’s 165th battalion was out on an anti-Naxal operation.
The operation was launched at around 7:00 am from Bedre camp towards Ursangal village, during which, an exchange of fire broke out and constable C Ramu sustained bullet injuries.
Ramu received two shot wounds on his shoulder and two on his hand. He was rushed to the camp in an injured condition.
Meanwhile, Sub-Inspector (SI) Sudhakar Reddy went missing after the attack. A joint search party of 165 battalions of CRPF and a CoBRA unit later found his dead body.
