Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday announced measures for the development of veterinary sector in the State. The measures included opening of 50 veterinary sub centres at a cost of Rs 1.6 crore, setting up of veterinary training and research centres in three districts — Thiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri and Villupuram—at a cost of Rs 2.40 crore and transfer of 177.92 acres of land for the Veterinary College and Research Institute at Orathanadu.
Already, with a view to providing quality medicare to the cattlestock in the State, the Chief Minister ordered filling up of 843 vacancies for veterinary assistant surgeons and starting of 20 new veterinary dispensaries. A milk factory that would generate two lakh litres of milk and 20 tonnes of milk powder every day would be set up at Melmudiyanoor village in Tiruvannamalai district, through the National Dairy Development Corporation.
Already, the State government has released Rs 45.74 crore. With a view to expediting the works, the CM has directed to disburse Rs 11.51 crore. The factory would commence production in July 2013.
