Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday chaired a meeting to finalise the State’s stand on the Supreme Court order making mandatory auctioning of all natural resources in the country. An official release here said the SC had termed as illegal and cancelled all the 2G spectrum licences issued after January 10, 2008, on first-cum-first serve basis. It has ruled that auctioning of all natural resources in the country should be made mandatory.
Following this, as per Article 143(1) of the Constitution, a Presidential reference was sought on whether all natural resources had to be auctioned as ordered by the SC. After this, the SC had invited suggestions from State governments. The meeting was attended by finance minister O Panneerselvam, advocate-general A Navaneethakrishnan, and chief secretary Debendranath Sarangi.
