HYDERABAD: The Kiran Kumar Reddy government is poised to unfurl in the next 45 days various welfare programmes, requiring an expenditure of over Rs 6000 crore, to benefit farmers, women and downtrodden sections. These include the Indira Jala Prabha and Rachhabanda phase II -- involving an expenditure of Rs 1600 crore and Rs 2700 crore, respectively -- which will be launched next month.The chief minister convened a meeting of his cabinet at his camp office in Begumpet Tuesday evening, and discussed issues pertaining to these programmes. The chief minister is expected to take part in Rachhabanda in Vizianagaram, West Godavari and Medak districts from Oct. 15 to 30.It is learnt that the question of tackling the Sakala Janula Samme called by Telangana employees from Sept. 13, the Ganesh immersion programme and the prevailing political situation in the state were the other issues came up for discussion.Talking to newsmen later, minister information and public relations D K Aruna said representations received in the first phase of Rachhabanda would be resolved in phase II. In all, about 86 lakh people are expected to benefit from the programme.Besides, the Indira Jala Prabha programme would be taken up between Oct. 1 and 10 wherein about one lakh borewells would be drilled to serve about 10 lakh acres belonging to SC and ST families. The state government has also decided to conduct a 10-day programme between Sept. 15 and 25 for the benefit of farmers and women. About 36 lakh farmers and 50 lakh women would receive benefits at a cost to the exchequer of `1800 crore. Another `1000 crore would be spent under the programme named Sthree Nidhi to benefit women.Eighteen 18 ministers including M Maheedhar Reddy, S Vijayarama Raju, P Vishwarup, V Vasanth Kumar, K Parthasarathy, K Lakshminarayana, D Manikya Varaprasad, G Aruna Kumari, K Krishna Reddy, E Pratap Reddy, TG Venkatesh, M Mukesh Goud, J Geetha Reddy, B Saraiah, P Lakshmaiah, D Nagender, DK Aruna and V Sunitha Laxma Reddy attended the cabinet meeting.Earlier, there was hectic activity at the chief minister’s office in the Secretariat with MLAs and MLCs belonging to the TDP, MIM and Congress coming to meet the chief minister to secure solution to problems in their assembly segments.
