Congress issues ultimatum to UT government

PUDUCHERRY: Rajya Sabha member P Kannan on Thursday urged the government to use Goondas Act  for booking criminals  and  controlling the rate of crime which had  spiralled up in  Puducherry.  He gave an ultimatum that he would resort to an agitation if action was not taken within a week.Briefing newsmen at a press conference on  Thursday, he said anti-social elements had become emboldened in committing crimes as there was no security.  It appears that the police department has become dysfunctional, said Kannan, and added that under such circumstances, the criminals needed to be dealt with by the Goondas Act.
