KANNUR: The latest bout of factional fight in the Congress triggered by the displacement and replacement of a flex board carrying the life-size picture of K Sudhakaran MP representing the Kannur constituency, continued to rock the organisational set-up and even the normal functioning of the party, as another group of senior leaders owing allegiance to the A-Group and a section of the reformed I-Group demanded action against Sudhakaran.Senior Congress leaders who expressed solidarity with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and demanded stern action against K Sudhakaran on Tuesday were KPCC secretary Satheesan Pacheni, former ministers K P Nuruddeen and N Ramakrishnan, who is also a former president of the Kannur District Congress Committee, and A D Musthafa. They alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched against the UDF government in the state led by Oommen Chandy taking undue advantage of an issue involving the Kannur District Police Chief. They said that the removal of banners and flex boards carrying the pictures of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was an action which even the CPM workers wouldn’t do.The Chief Minister was being targeted by Sudhakaran and his gang of supporters when the UDF rule in the state was getting the widespread support of the people. The KPCC and the AICC should take action against K Sudhakaran, they said. With leaders including Nuruddeen and N Ramakrishnan coming up with the demand to take disciplinary action against Sudhakaran, there is deep trouble brewing for the ebullient Congress MP, who is banking on the strength of his influence on the DCC.Sudhakaran can be sure that the present DCC president Vijayaraghavan and an outspoken Congress MLA Sunny Joseph will stand with him during any crisis. But the changing equations of group loyalties in Congress now present a confusing picture.
