HYDERABAD: Endowments minister C Ramachandraiah created ripples in Congress circles on Sunday by remarking that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was not bothered to ensure that former Praja Rajyam workers got due recognition in the Congress. The minister said: "If they think that since they have given some positions to Chiranjeevi or Ganta Srinviasa Rao or C Ramachandraiah, and nothing more needs to be done, then they are living in a fool's paradise. They do not understand that the sections that were the backbone of the PRP are on the verge of leaving in search of greener pastures." RamachandRaiah said that not only the chief minister but also PCC president Botcha Satayanarayana was not showing interest to retain the sections that helped the PRP win 70 lakh votes in the 2009 elections."If the trend continues, I am afraid, it may not serve the purpose of the merger _ that is making the Congress strong," he said. He said that at the time of merger party president Sonia Gandhi had suggested to the party state leaders to ensure that there should be no discrimination against the PRP workers."But I am sorry to say it is being observed more in breach." Ramachandraiah said the present period was crucial for the Congress and the sections stood by PRP should not be allowed to go anywhere. In Kadapa and Anantapur districts, some parties have started wooing them.If the Congress remains indifferent, they workers, who joined the Congress expecting some kind of recognition or position, might go in different directions in search of greener pastures. "Any one working for a party wants some position of power. Otherwise, why should he be in a party? He could as well join a Lions Club or a Rotary Club and do social service," he remarked.
