Senior Congress leader VM Sudheeran continued to express his strong displeasure at the ongoing revamp in the state unit of the party, alleging the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala who are leading the exercise are also acting as leaders of two prominent groups.
After talks with the two here on Thursday, Sudheeran said that a panel should be constituted to hold talks to finalise the list of new office-bearers for the party before taking it up for ratification to the central leadership.
“Efficiency should be the criterion instead of group affiliations”, he said, asserting his professed stand that the revamp should not be limited to sharing of posts between ‘A’ and ‘I’ groups.
Sudheeran claimed that only an impartial approach on the revamp would bring dividends to the party and reminded the shortcomings while finalising the candidates’ list for the last Assembly polls had cost the party dearly. “Sharing of DCCs by dividing districts among different groups will not be beneficial,” he said.
He reportedly told Chandy and Chennithala that people are eagerly looking at the Congress in the state and everyone is duty-bound to ensure impartiality in the revamp, by focussing on efficiency to build a new team to steer the party ahead.
The interaction was part of the mission of Chandy and Chennithala to listen to the views of different sections in the party in a last round of talks, before heading for New Delhi with a draft list of office-bearers.
