Addressing media after the meeting, party veteran AK Antony said that CWC members unanimously said that “respecting the wishes of crores of Congress workers, Rahul must take over as party president." Antony quoted Rahul as saying that he was ready to take any responsibility that CWC bestowed him with.
For the time being, Sonia Gandhi will continue as a party president, sources said.
During the meeting, Rahul criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being obsessed with power and for silencing voices of dissent.

He also discussed organisational polls and strategy for the upcoming winter session of Parliament besides party's preparations for the assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur.
