KOCHI: The stage has been set for the Republic Day celebrations in the city and the parade will be held at Marine Drive Ground on Thursday. PWD Minister V K Ibrahim Kunju will be the chief guest at the parade. He   will receive the guard of honour from policemen. The celebrations will begin with the minsiter hoisting the flag at 8.30 a.m. He will receive the guard of honour. Bharat Scouts and Guides, National Cadet Corps, Seva Dal and schoolchildren will take part in the parade.  Tight Vigil in CityTo ensure a safe Republic Day, the police have beefed up the security    arrangements in the city. The entry points to the city have been sealed and vehicles are being thoroughly checked. According to the police officials, police personnel have been deputed at each part of the city so that no untoward incidents take place. High rise buildings and crowded areas will be checked by the police bomb squad. The Shadow Police in mufti will roam the city to track any attempt to initiate violence. “The city is under a tight police cover. We have  taken all security arrangements for the day,” said M N Ramesh, Assistant Commissioner, Special Branch.  The airport authorities will also be issued a high alert on Republic Day  and precautions have been taken to prevent any possible security threat. The  Railway Police will monitor the commuters in the railway station.
