Cops on toes to avert self-immolation bid

BHUBANESWAR: Commissionerate Police and its response teams along with fire fighters were on their toes on Saturday after they were tipped off about a self-immolation bid by a resident of Bhanjanagar. The man in question, Ganapati Dakua, had earlier made a similar bid in the past which is why police were in no mood to take any chances. The vantage points starting from Naveen Nivas to State Secretariat were manned by policemen, fire fighters and tenders to thwart any attempt by Dakua who belongs to Bilunti village in Ganjam’s Bhanjanagar. However, Dakua did not turn up.
