Thane: Crime Detection Rate (CDR) for 2013 has dropped by 3% to 58% even as there is a steady increase in crime under various categories, according to a report. "There were a total of 12016 crimes registered under Class-I to V of which 7,007 had been detected in 2013. Last year, a total of 9541 crimes were registered of which 5797 were detected", a police official said quoting the report by the Police Commissionarate.
The areas covered under the Commissionarate are Thane city, Kalyan, Bhiwandi, Ambernath and Ulhas Nagar. The number of crimes committed has gone by 2500 in 2013. While the number of murder cases dropped to 96 in 2013 from 110 in 2012, a total of 76 cases are solved compared to 94 cases solved in 2012, the officer said quoting figures from the report.
The number of attempt to murder cases rose to 107 from 93 cases in 2012 and that of rape to 182 from 106 in 2012. The number of crimes under various categories in 2013, along with the figures in 2012 as given in bracket is: kidnapping 302 (123); molestation 463 (198); abatement of suicide 93 (72); assault on public servant 153 (134). The report indicates the number of kidnapping cases indeed doubled following the Supreme Court directions that cases of children missing should be treated as kidnapping. Worryingly, cases of molestation have risen by 250%.
