BHUBANESWAR: The crime and criminal tracking network system (CCTNS), a mission mode project under the national e-Governance plan of the Centre, will be rolled out in all police stations of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack commissionerate of police in the next six months. The e-Governance programme aimed at creating a nationwide networking infrastructure for evolution of IT-enabled system to track crimes and detection of criminals has been made operational in 30 centres including important police establishments. This was informed to a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary BK Patnaik here on Tuesday. The Chief Secretary reviewed the progress of the Centrally-sponsored scheme which was scheduled to be completed in two years. It was further informed that BSNL has completed survey in all the 582 police stations and 167 key offices of the police establishment. The survey report has been sent to the Ministry for approval. Meanwhile, 229 master trainers have been identified from among the police personnel who after completion of their training will, in turn, train more than 4,000 police personnel on the e-Governance programme. The training programme will be completed by March, the meeting was told. All the police stations will be connected with optic fibre which will be a virtual private network of the police department. Measures will be taken to keep the network free from hacking and outside interference, the BSNL representative told the meeting. The objective of the programme is to provide countrywide connectivity of all the police stations and important police establishments for sharing information on crime and criminals. The Ministry of Home Affairs has selected BSNL as the agency to implement the connectivity programme for which the Centre has sanctioned ` 96 crore to the State. The National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) is the nodal agency for the implementation of the project. The e-Governance programme will provide a comprehensive and integrated system for enhancing efficiency of policing. All the 580 police stations, district and State police headquarters will be connected with nationwide network through a specialised software. On commissioning, the scheme will help in scientific investigation of crime, crime prevention, law and order maintenance, traffic management and emergency response.
