Jaipur: The CBI on Sunday arrested a senior IPS officer here for his alleged involvement in Dara Singh fake encounter killing, the fifth arrest after the Supreme Court directed registration of the case.
According to a CBI official, A Ponnochamy Muthusamy, a 1991 batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre, was arrested by the agency's sleuths.
Muthusamag, presently IGP (State Crime Records Bureau), will be produced in a designated court in Jaipur on Monday.
He was the DIG of Special Operation Group (SOG) that killed Singh, an alleged bootlegger from Churu, in an encounter on October 23, 2006.
He was allegedly gunned down by the SOG team of the Rajasthan Police on the outskirts of Jaipur while he was fleeing from police custody. Singh's wife Sushila Devi filed a PIL in which she alleged that her husband was killed in cold blood by the SOG.
Following a registration of case on the direction of Supreme Court, the CBI had in March arrested four Rajasthan Police's Special Operation Group (SOG) personnel - Nisar Khan, Naresh Sharma, Satnarayan Godara and Surender Singh.
The CBI had earlier questioned senior state police officials and certain BJP leaders in connection with the case.
Singh's family members have pointed fingers at a senior state BJP leader claiming that he was targeted because of personal enmity.
