Mumbai: How close was encounter specialist Daya Nayak to Bollywood? The Anti-Corruption Bureau is digging deeper into the murky deal Nayak may have had with the film industry.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau has opened a whole new can of worms after uncovering Daya Nayak's links with the film industry.
According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), well known film producer and financer Jhaamuu Sughand was issued four cheques each of Rs 2.5 crores by a finance company that has Daya Nayak's wife Komal on its Board of Directors.
"He had financed a producer, Jammu Sugandh. I don't know the name of the film. But he paid him Rs 10 crores," said Vikas Gaikwad, additional SP of Anti-Corruption Bureau of Mumbai Police.
Ojas Finance, the company that issued the checks, also has Nayak's close friend Pallani Manivelan on its Board of Directors.
The ACB says Manivelan used this company and many others like it to launder money for Nayak.
"He would purchase these companies that were actually sick units and use them to convert Daya Nayak's black money into white by a series of false transactions," Gaikwad said.
The ACB is currently concentrating on learning more about Nayak's connections with the film personalities. It is also investigating 13 bogus finance companies that have Nayak's wife or associates on their boards.
The court has, meanwhile, granted Daya Nayak a temporary reprieve from being arrested till he presents himself in court on Wednesday, when his anticipatory bail application comes up for hearing.
If these reports of Daya Nayak's questionable links with the film industry are proved right, it could add a whole new dimension to this case. It is also likely that the Mumbai Police will make several arrests over the next few days in this connection.
