BANGALORE: The Lokayukta Special Court extended the deadline to the Lokayukta police to submit its investigation report against Home and Transport Minister R Ashok in a case pertaining to illegal denotification of government land till November 21.The court had, on October 20, directed the Lokayukta sleuths to file the investigation report on November 5; however they sought additional time from the Lokayukta court to submit the report.Lokayukta Dy SP Abdul Ahad informed Lokauyukta court judge N K Sudheendra Rao that they are yet to interrogate several witnesses, including officials in the Bangalore Development Authority, who have made remarks on the files, and have to scrutinise various other documents.Even Lokayukta Special Public Prosecutor Pramod Chandra tried to convince the judge that the investigating officers are faced with a heavy workload and it would be appropriate to give them more time for investigation; he said that the process may be affected if they are pressured to file the report in a tearing hurry. The judge, after taking note of the plea, ordered the extension. It may be recalled that Ashok was accused of influencing then chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to denotify government land that was identified for acquisition by the Bangalore Development Authority. The land’s market value was valued around Rs 15 crore and Ashok allegedly misused his position to purchase it for a mere Rs 44.77 lakh. Ashok is the prime accused in the case while Yeddyurappa is the second accused.
