Bengaluru: After a Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) trainee died at a Karnataka training centre on Sunday, as many as 590 of his colleagues decided to donate Rs 10,000 each to the deceased’s family.
On Saturday, 30-year-old Basavaraj Sharanappa was training at the Naganahalli Police Training Centre in Kalaburugi district when he reportedly fell ill and relieved himself to consult a doctor. He was found dead the next morning.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
"As far as we know, he had no history of illness. His friends or family also never noticed any health issues. The family feels he has died under suspicious circumstances. We have begun the investigation," Shashi Kumar N, SP, Kalaburagi told CNN News18.
The police added that his body didn’t have any external injury when he was found dead.
Saddened by their colleague’s sudden demise, the trainees at the academy came together and decided to donate Rs 10,000 each from their salary to Basavaraj’s family. The decision to donate money was taken considering the possible delay in receiving the government compensation, the police said.
The deceased is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Basavaraj, a native of Benakanalli in Sedam taluk, joined the academy a year ago.
Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that a compensation will be disbursed soon.
