New Delhi: Lt Governor of Delhi Tejender Khanna has stressed on issue of compulsory ID cards for the Delhi citizens.
Tejinder Khanna told CNN-IBN there's a need for tighter security in Delhi and issue of compulsory ID cards needs to be reviewed.
He also said this scheme should roll out from Delhi first as the security sensitivity of the National Capital is unlikely to change in the coming days.
This after the Lt Governor issued orders in January this year making it mandatory for all the citizens to carry proofs of identity. It had stirred a controversy following which the orders were cancelled.
Delhi's Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit also said terror deterrents are an immediate need.
“The police will have to get better, be it equipment or training. They are already well trained but to meet this you need even more preparedness. If we are to start politcising and playing the blame game, you can go on and on. But it concerns each one of us. It’s not politics. It’s a matter of the security of the country and people and I am voicing the concerns of the people,” she said.
Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said the guilty should be brought to book, but the innocent should not be targeted.
“Whosoever is behind the blasts, whether it is SIMI or someone else, should be taken to task. We have to see no innocent person gets penalised,” he said.
