New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested five youths who were allegedly involved in robbing hired vehicles. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said Amit, 20, Aman Sharma, 20, Sushil Kumar, 22, Ajay Kumar, 23, and Yogesh Kumar, 20, were arrested on a tip-off.
The five accused, hailing from Sonepat in Haryana, were arrested on Saturday from the parking lot of Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tila at Timarpur in Delhi, he said. Both Amit, who was the alleged gang leader, and Ajay were wanted in other criminal cases. The gang used to hire cabs from railway stations, bus stands and rob the vehicles after grievously injuring drivers. The police said a robbery had taken place in the Outer district in Delhi on June 6 this year in which four youths hired a cab from Old Delhi railway station to Bakhtawarpur village.
When the car reached near the village, they overpowered the driver and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon, the officer said. The gang robbed cash and mobile phone from the driver and fled away with his car. Police said that during the probe, they got a tip-off that the gang would assemble at the parking lot of Gurudwara Majnu Ka Tila and a trap was laid which led to their arrest.
