New Delhi: A high alert has been sounded in Delhi as a heavily armed terrorist is suspected to be hiding in the national capital, said sources on Wednesday. The terrorist is armed with RDX, IED and has sophisticated weapons, sources said.
According to the sources, airports, central government offices and all sensitive installations have been put on high alert. The warning comes just a few days ahead of Independence Day on August 15 and on the same day Usman Khan, a Pakistani terrorist belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba, was arrested by security forces with the help of some villagers in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur.
Usman's capture is a major success for Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir as he is the first major arrest after Ajmal Kasab, the lone 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks terrorist caught alive. The 20-year-old Usman is a resident of Faisalabad in Pakistan.
Intelligence sources say Usman Khan had infiltrated into India along with at least four other LeT terrorists six days ago. After entering India, the group split into two. While three terrorists attacked Dinanagar in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, the other two including Usman were waiting to strike at another location.
On Wednesday morning, Usman and the other terrorists ambushed a Border Security Force (BSF) convoy in Narsoo in Udhampur, killing two soldiers and injuring eight others. In the ensuing gunbattle, BSF troopers killed one terrorist while Usman fled into the dense forests after taking three people hostage.
