CHENNAI: Stumped by their poll defeat, the DMK is all set for a major revamp in its organisational set up. Instead of the traditional district units, the party organisation is now likely to be split along the lines of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies.
A DMK release in Chennai on Tuesday said that the general council members had been asked to give their opinion by July 15 on a proposal to convert the existing district units into Parliamentary and Assembly Committees. The executive and general councils of the DMK are slated to be held on July 23 and 24 respectively.Asked if the proposal was a direct outcome of the electoral drubbing, DMK organisational secretary and spokesperson TKS Elangovan said: "It is among the reasons. It is actually a process to try and identify the reasons for the failure. Whether the contributing factor (for defeat) could have been the present organisational set up, alliance, or a combination of other factors, needs to be figured out."
