Jodhpur: Resident doctors of three hospitals here today went on a strike after a doctor was beaten up by the relatives of a patient who died during treatment.
Dr Vivek Kumar of M G Hospital was beaten up last night by the relatives of Mumtaz Khan who was brought to the hospital with pain in the upper abdomen and died during treatment, R K Aseri, Principal of S N Medical Hospital, said.
The relatives also damaged hospital property, he said, adding that following the incident, resident doctors at three hospitals here stopped work.
"They have not yet announced the strike formally but have dropped work," District Magistrate Siddharth Mahajan said.
"We are in touch with them and hopeful of some positive development soon," he added.
A representative of Jodhpur Resident Doctors Association said the doctors stopped working to protest incidents of violence against them.
