THRISSUR: The mortal remains of SNDP Yogam former president Dr K K Rahulan were consigned to flames with full state honours at Vadukkara Sree Narayana cemetery on Tuesday. His son Dr Sunil Rahulan lit the pyre around 4.30 p.m. Earlier in the day, his body was kept at the Sahitya Akademi Hall for the public to pay their last respects. Former Revenue Minister K P Rajendran, former speaker K Radhakrishnan, CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, P C Chacko MP, Congress leader V M Sudheeran, critic Sukumar Azhikode, District Collector P G Thomas, Police Commissioner P Vijayan and Metropolitan of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Aprem paid homage to the deceased. SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan, Swami Prakashananda, former Finance Minister Thomas Isaac and Thrissur Archbishop Mar Andrews Thazhath had visited the residence of Rahulan.Rahulan was a common man’s doctor: IMA The state branch of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed deep condolence over the death of its former president Dr. K K Rahulan. Dr Rahulan was the president of the IMA state branch during 1983-1984 and his service was exemplary and unforgettable, said IMA state president Dr G Vijayakumar and state secretary J Rajagopalan Nair in a statement here on Tuesday. Apart from the service in the medical field, Dr Rahulan had left his mark in various fields holding important posts such as the president of the Kerala Sasthra Sahitya Parishad, vice-chairman of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, president of the SNDP Yogam, general council member of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, recalled the IMA office-bearers.Yet he was known more as a common man’s doctor, they said.
