VISAKHAPATNAM: Tension prevailed for sometime at the Collectorate on Monday as some DSC-2008 qualified candidates attempted self immolation in front of the Collectorate on Monday. The DSC aspirants attempted mass self immolation demanding assurance from officials that they would be given jobs.They said though they were given appointment letters, no postings were given till now.Even as collector Lav Agarval was in discussions with the protestors, a section of candidates continued the stri for two hours. However, the they called off their agitation following an assurance from Agarval to take the issue to the notice of the higher officials. The candidates called off their protest but warned that if their demands were not conceded,they would intensify agitation.As the collector failed to hold talks with district education officer A Suribabu immediately, the agitators staged a protest in front of the collector’s house. However, they relented after Lav Agarwal assured them to speak to the officials concerned and solve the issue as early as possible.
