HYDERABAD: The Election Commission has given clearance for the appointment of information commissioners in the state under the Right to Information Act.According to chief electoral officer Bhanwarlal, the Election Commission has accepted the state government’s request, made a week ago, for appointing four information commissioners approved by the Governor.Governor ESL Narsimhan rejected four of the eight names recommended by the sate government for appointment as information commissioners and returned the file to the chief minister’s office.The names cleared by the Governor are: C Madhukar Raj, IFS (retd), S Prabhakar Reddy, IPS (retd), P Vijaya Babu, editor of Andhra Prabha Telugu daily, M Ratan, who retired recently as director general (vigilance and enforcement).Those against whom the Governor had serious reservations were: Lam Tantiya Kumari, advocate (daughter of former deputy chief minister Koneru Ranga Rao), S Imtiaz Ahmed, retired civil judge who later joined the TDP, M Vijaya Nirmala, academician who was in PRP and Varre Venkateswarlu from Nalgonda, who was an INTUC activist.Meanwhile, the chief electoral officer conducted a video conference from secretariat on Wednesday with district collectors and district superintendents of police where byelections are scheduled.Election commissioner HS Brahma also joined the video conference. Brahma told them to take steps to prevent flow of liquor into constituencies where elections are scheduled.He appreciated the officials for seizing huge quantity of liquor. Bhanwarlal said Chittor district collector has registered a case against Chadalavada Krishna Murthy and MP Chinta Mohan for violating election code in Tirupathi.He also said he asked for a report from the collector on minister Dharmana Prasada Rao’s alleged violation of election code.At present, there are two nodal officers instead of four for Visakapatnam, Srikakulam and Ongole and Macherla, he said, adding two more nodal officers would be appointed soon.
