THENHIPALAM: Installing IT-enabled services in universities will multiply the academic output of the state, Minister for IT and Industries P K Kunhalikutty said here on Saturday. He was inaugurating the e-governance system in the University of Calicut at the University Seminar Complex.The minister said that it was sad to see that universities in the state were lagging behind other governmentdepartments in utilising information technology, adding that e-governance will ensure transparency and speed in administration. Later, Vice-Chancellor Prof M Abdul Salam accorded sanction to the first electronic file submitted via the new system. K N A Khader MLA delivered the keynote address. University sources said that this was the first time a university in Kerala shifting its entire governance to an electronic platform. The entire file management and payment system will be digitised and the students can see the progress of their applications online, they added. The system, costing more than `3 crore, is implemented with the technical support of Keltron.
