KASARGOD: Parents of an eight-year-old girl whose name is on the list of endosulfan victims has rejected the monthly dole of Rs 2,000 being given to the family. Vandana, who was suffering from periodic crack of skin on the heels, had attended the endosulfan victims’ camp held at Cheemeni about six months ago. Her father Chandran was surprised to receive Rs 10,000 from the district authorities. He received the money, but did not know why it was sent.It was then that he realised that his daughter had been included in the endosulfan victims’ list (serial number 2658). Chandran told ‘Express’ that she had recovered and was doing well. She goes toschool now. The family does not want her name to be included in the victims’ list because of the stigma attached to the endosulfan diseases. The family got the money order of Rs 2,000 in the first month. Though the parents returned the money order, they got the money in the next month also. This too was rejected but then they received the money for the third month. Now the parents have informed the authorities to remove her name from the list and not to send the money.Though there were no plantations in Kodom-Belur grama panchayat, as many as 99 persons there are getting financial assistance from the government as endosulfan victims. Kodom-Belur was not among the 11 grama panchayats where endosulfan was sprayed. It was said that Kodom-Belur being a CPM stronghold, there was political pressure to include the grama panchayat in the endosulfan list.
