HYDERABAD: The trend of going to restaurants that offer a wide spread of dishes in a buffet has become very popular. Reasons could be many — right from the fact that you can choose your favourites from a variety of dishes or probably avoid the clash of different choices of many people in one group who would want to eat together.Following this trend, Hyderabad has become home to yet another restaurant called The Buffet. And as the name suggests, the restaurant has on offer buffet for both occasions — lunch and dinner.Located on the fifth floor at the GVK One mall, spotting this restaurant is quite a task. But, once you make it to The Buffet, the beautiful panoramic view of the Tank Bund will compensate for it. Walk in, pick up a bowl of soup and a few starters and settle down to enjoy the view. With cuisines like Continental, Mexican, Thai, Chinese et al, the buffet cuisine is global and doesn’t offer Indian dishes. With an almost equal amount of dishes for the vegetarian and the non-vegetarian plate, some of the starters include Crispy Potato Taipai, Mix Veg Croquettes, Creamy Corn Cakes and Mustard Grilled Fish. However, they don’t have a fixed menu and the dishes are available on rotation. After binging on a host of starters, you can either enjoy some salads, or directly move on to the main course. The main course marathon begins with some pasta, maybe a Shepard’s pie, followed by rice and noodles. The curries may include a Thai and a Chinese dish. Also, going against the rule of not serving Indian food, at offer is Biryani, which a Hyderabadi meal is incomplete without. One would also like to make sure you leave some space to tickle the sweet tooth. For at the dessert table, on offer are an assortment of pastries and cheese cakes, and a few Indian desserts like kheer and halwa. And if you’re in luck, there is a separate corner which serves mouth-watering hot jelebis! For those on a diet, fresh fruits are also available. To add to the mood, the restaurant is equipped with an alcohol section as well, so feel free to have a few drinks with your meal. The buffet is priced at Rs 249 per head during lunch and Rs 349 during dinner on weekdays. However, on weekends the lunch is priced at Rs 299 and the dinner at Rs 399.Verdict: The Buffet is probably just another place that offers a a multi-cuisine spread of gourmet to choose from. Though some of the dishes are definitely worth having a second serving of, if you don’t make it to the place right when the buffet starts, you may end up with some cold food on your plate. On the bright side, the view from the restaurant is definitely their USP. So think about visiting it. Definitely worth it the first time, if you are on time!
