Jammu: TS Wazir, a senior leader of the ruling National Conference and former member of the Jammu and Kashmir legislative council whose term ended in February, has been arrested in connection with a murder case in Jammu six years ago, police said on Thursday.
The arrest was carried out under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (Jammu) Basant Rath in the on Thursday evening.
A leading businessman of Jammu, RB Chopra, and three other members of his family were axed to death in his house in Trikuta Nagar locality of Jammu six years ago.
Police were investigating the case all these years but could not lay their hands on the culprits. Police recently arrested three suspects and after their confessional statements, arrested Wazir, who was elected as a legislator on the National Conference ticket in 2005.
Police officials said that the role of Wazir in hatching the conspiracy to murder the Chopra family has more or less been established.
"As of now, I can only disclose to you that Wazir has been arrested," a senior police officer told IANS.
