SALEPUR: A child of Badakhiri village under Nischintakoili block allegedly died after being administered expired drugs here on Thursday. The eight-year-old boy, Pabitra Behera, was suffering from dysentery and was taken to a private clinic in Nischintakoili by his father. The fatal medicines were purchased from the clinic premises, said the boy’s father, Kailash Behera.Kailash said a doctor of the clinic, who examined Pabitra, had administered two injections on the spot and prescribed three varieties of medicines (12 tablets) to be taken orally, before discharging him from the clinic. As per the prescription, “I administered three tablets to Pabitra on Wednesday night. A few hours later Pabitra started vomiting and there was frothing from his mouth. He trembled throughout the night and suffered a lot of pain after being given the medicines,” Kailash alleged in his FIR.On Thursday morning, when Pabitra’s uncle Suresh Chandra verified the tablets he found two of the three varieties, provided by the clinic, to have expired and there was no mention of date of manufacturing and expiry on the third one. While tablets DOM (BT) expired in September 2011, tablets Loramil expired in June 2011. The family members rushed Pabitra to the nearest Nischintakoili CHC where he was declared brought dead.The body has been sent to SCB Medical, Cuttack for postmortem. An unnatural death case has been registered, informed BK Aich, IIC, Nischintakoili police station.
