CUTTACK: The High Court has asked the State Government to inform it about allegations of illegal allotment of land near Puri Swargadwar to private persons. Acting on two PIL writ petitions seeking directions regarding the alleged illegal allotment of land at Swargadwar in Puri, a division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice V Gopalagowda and Justice BN Mohapatra has directed the additional government advocate to inform the court about the actual status of the allegation by December 1. The HC has fixed further hearing of the petitions to December 1. The petitioners, Nationalist Lawyers’ Forum and advocate Dayanidhi Lenka, have filed the PILs appealing to the court to issue appropriate directions to the State Government to protect the land from unscrupulous persons who have illegally been allotted very valuable land near the Swargadwar. The petitioners further alleged that the land in question has been earmarked for cremation purposes but the Puri municipality is trying to settle the same in favour of encroachers. Basing on news items the petitioners have appealed to the court.
