KOCHI: Rajin, 29, who has been swindling money from people for the past ten years was arrested by the North police on Wednesday. His accomplices Raj, 23, and Bibin, 23, were also arrested. According to the police, the three used to cheat people by setting up consultancy offices that promise people admission to colleges. The latest theft involved the cheating of a Kottayam resident Gopalan by guaranteeing an MBBS seat for his daughter at the Laxmy Narayana College. When Gopalan arrived at the institution to make further enquiries on the admission, he learned that the institution was closed down. When Gopalan tracked down the culprits, they offered to return the money, but kept on delaying it. Gopalan then informed the police, who nabbed the culprits. On interrogating the culprits, the police learned that Rajin was involved in similar criminal cases. Rajin had set up such institutions in Chennai and Bangalore and promised people seats in medical and engineering coll-eges. After getting enough money from the people, he would close down the institution and shift to another place.Rajin had started these criminal activities while he was a BDS student. He had first set up an institution named ‘Bishop House Information Centre’ at the Hospital Junction in Karunagappally. Rajin then established another institution named ‘Leeds’. When there were complaints against him, he absconded. He still has an LP warrant against him at the Karunagappally police station.Rajin then continued to set up more false consultancy centres and swindled money from many people. It was during the process of establishing a new institution named ‘Place Well’ that he was caught.
