The Basavangudi police arrested the president of Karnataka Taekwondo Association, on charges of issuing fake certificates to athletes.
The accused, T Praveen Kumar, had allegedly been luring Taekwondo players and issuing fake certificates stating they had participated in Commonwealth Taekwondo Championship.
According to the police, Kumar had first issued a certificate to a player identified as Singara Mattu, stating that he had taken part in the said championship in Chennai last year. Taking advantage of this certificate, Mattu had reportedly secured a job as a police official with the Punjab police.
The police said it was P Mune Gowda, one of the office bearers of the association, exposed the illegal activity. Gowda had filed a complaint at the 2nd ACMM court, that had then directed the case to be investigated by the Basavangudi police.
Post investigations, the police nabbed Praveen Kumar and recovered 210 false participation certificates.
Mattu and his father-in-law D Mangeshwar, also the president of Goa Taekwondo Association were the accused in the complaint. Sources revealed that the Karnataka Taekwondo Association has been involved in many such irregularities.
The police are now questioning Praveen Kumar to establish whether his claims of being the secretary of the All India Taekwondo Association is true.
