HAVERI:  Workers of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, District Raitha Sangha, District Hasiru Sene and Students Federation of India (SFI) on Friday jointly observed Martyr Day in memory of the farmers who were shot dead during the police firing in Haveri on June 10, 2008.
KRRS vicepresident Shivanandayya Gurumath has alleged that the BJP government led by Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa had failed to safeguard the interests of farming community and added that the instead farmers were facing a tough time under Yeddyurappa government. Addressing farmers after paying homage to farmers Siddalingappa Churi and Puttappa Honnatti Samadi in Haveri, who were killed in the police firing, he charged the state government with encouraging dealers and agents and said that they were becoming richer by harassing farmers by reducing the price of crops at the time of harvesting.

Gurumath has asked the farming community to not to bow before the government for subsidies as both Centre and state governments are misusing farmers by providing very fewer amount of subsidies for agricultural activities. He urged farmers to go for available seeds and organic fertilisers.

KRRS is making all efforts to reorganise the farming community and bring changes in Raitha Sangha to face the world and global challenges, he said.
