Film fiesta at the Mumbai Film Festival
Mumbai Film Festival this year promises to be huge with more than 200 films and yes, Oliver Stone is coming too!

The 12th edition of the festival will showcase a gamut of 200 movies, the largest ever of all the film festivals held in India till date. And out of these 200, 43 are specially curated Japanese films which give an idea of the evolvement of Japanese cinema in the last sixty years.

Another special feature this year is a women’s panel discussion by eminent ladies of the film industry. Amit Khanna, Chairman of Reliance Big Entertainment, says, “This panel includes Kiran Rao (director of Dhobhi Ghat), Anusha Rizvi, director of ‘Peepli Live’, actor Nandita Sen and the others. And it will be curated by Sooni Taraporewala.”

The festival will also be screening many Iranian, French, Asian films and also a few films from USA. This will be the first time that an International film will have its world premiere in this festival. Khanna confirms, “The Danish film is titled ‘Abobe the Street Below the Water’ directed by Charlotte Sieling.”

The festival this time will honour Hollywood actor Oliver Stone and from the Indian counterpart, actor Manoj Kumar will receive the life time achievement award. Shyam Benegal, trustee of MAMI (Mumbai Academy Of Moving Images) that organises this annual festival says, “We are also expecting the presence of a few renowned Hollywood celebrities for the festival. But we can not disclose the names right now.”

The festival will kick-start on October 21 with David Fincher’s ‘Social Network’. And the movies this time will be screened in all the screens of PVR multiplex in Juhu, In Metro as well in a screen at Ghatkopar. Many top global buyers of independent cinema have confirmed their presence at the festival.
