CHENNAI: Freedom Trust, a foundation for the rehabilitation, education and empowerment of the differently-abled, has been selected as the winner of 16th Kumara Rajah M A M Muthiah Chettiar award.The award, which carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, is awarded to an institute that has done outstanding service for the welfare of the differently-abled.Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, secretary of Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar Memorial Trust A R Ramaswamy and treasurer of the trust K Chidambaram said a three-member selection committee comprising Justice S Jagadeesan, Prof K Balakrishnan and auditor T A P Varadakutty selected Freedom Trust.The award will be presented on September 6 by former High Court judge A Ramamurthy to mark the 83rd birthday celebrations of Kumara Rajah M A M Muthiah Chettiar. President of the trust M A M R Muthiah will deliver the commemoration address, said Ramaswamy.
