HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) are getting ready to face the rains and the subsequent flooding in many parts of the city. They have prepared a disaster management plan to deal with any emergency during the ensuing monsoon.The civic body will focus on 109 critical water-logging points and low lying areas and decided to complete desilting works. All the manholes are being checked and those found missing or damaged will be replaced. The GHMC has also decided to stop all road-cuttings with immediate effect and restore which have already been dug.GHMC officials have also identified about 341 dilapidated buildings which would be sealed and demolished as they might cave in during the rainy season. In several areas, desilting of storm water drains, catch pit desilting and table drains have been completed and those which are incomplete, would be completed on a priority basis. Machinery is also being kept at hand for filling up potholes and emergency teams formed for attending to breaches at weak tank bunds. The HMWS&SB has also set up flood control rooms which will be responsible for receiving and redressal of complaints during monsoon.
