The government should be ready to offer cost-effective and quality medical treatment to patients, said former President APJ Abdul Kalam after inaugurating the graduation ceremony of the fifth batch of MBBS students of Cochin Medical College in Kalamassery on Friday.
He said thrust should be laid on medical research and teaching. Doctors should not induce diagnostic pain by directing patients to undergo umpteen tests during the initial check up. The new generation in the field should have a vision of bettering society. The standard of life of the old should be bettered. Research should lead to more opportunities in the medical field.
He distributed degree certificates to 103 medical students and gave the Dr Theja Jose gold medal to first rank holder U G Lakshmi Rani.
Cusat Vice-Chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath, Cooperative Academy of Professional Education Director Dr K Sukumaran Nair, Cochin Medical College founder principal Dr P G R Pillai and principal Dr Gireesan participated.
