BANGALORE: While the state is reeling under acute power crisis, the University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, is set to go forward with installation of a solar energy generators for power backup in its campus.Through this, the institute aims to curb the expenses on power consumption by about 50 per cent.“In a duration of two-three months the project will be functional,” said Dr K Narayana Gowda, Vice- Chancellor, UAS, GKVK.Speaking to the media on Wednesday, he said, “The project is being funded by the Ministry of Renewable Energy.A sum of Rs. 2 crore has been sanctioned for the project and the preliminary works have begun.” “We spend about Rs. 2 crore annually on electricity,” Gowda further said. In addition, a biogas plant project with a capacity to generate 200 cubic metres of biogas is already commissioned in Davangere and Mandya, he said.
