Global tender floated to close city dump yards

CHENNAI: With a view to get rid of its two overflowing dump yards - at Kodungaiyur and Perungudi - the Chennai Corporation has floated an international tender for expression of interest (EOI). According to sources, the civic body, through the EOI, expects to find the latest technology used for remediation and scientific closure of its two major dump yards on a definite timeline, including the number of months needed to do so.According to the proposal, the company selected would need to remediate the landfill sites and restore the sites to usable land. Sources told Express that the process to be utilised should be environmentally friendly and a proven process, and the bidders should have a minimum experience of three years in such projects.
