Hyderabad: The Telangana government's plans of cleaning Hussain Sagar lake by emptying it and subsequently re-filling it with fresh water, has left activists fuming. This ambitious project of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao aimed to restore the lake to its former glory, but the activists has claimed that the procedure is unscientific.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has decided to empty the lake in the coming summer season to clean it up but the environmentalists have slammed the government's decision

Activist Jasveen said, "Whole project has political consideration, not ecologically sound or in the welfare of people."

The government has sanctioned 100 crore for this ambitious project. The lake bed will be emptied before refilling it with fresh water in the monsoon season. However, environmental issues including the emission of hazardous gases and the disposal of chemical waste are a serious concern.

Telangana Irrigation Minister Harish Rao said, "We are consulting, how can lake be cleaned. If we drain out water, how can things proceed."

Several governments have spent crores of rupees in cleaning the lake, but it continues to remain polluted. Time will only tell if this government can restore glory of the lake or again the money will get wasted.
