New Delhi: Director Indra Kumar's latest venture 'Grand Masti' is doing wonders at the box-office. So far, the adult comedy has gathered Rs 47.68 crore in first four days. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweets, "#GrandMasti Wknd 40.18 cr, Mon 7.75 cr, Tue 7.25 cr [few sites yet to be added]. Total: 55.18 cr nett. MASSIVE HIT."
Adarsh also tweets, "This is unbelievable... #GrandMasti is simply unstoppable at the BO... Tue is at par with Mon in several circuits... Marching gloriously!"
'Grand Masti' opened at a positive note despite receiving brickbats from the critics and got the 4th highest opening of the year after 'Chennai Express', 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and 'Race 2'.
The film features Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani in the lead roles. 'Grand Masti' is a sequel to 2004 film 'Masti'.
Such commercial success is a good feat to achieve for any adult comedy in Bollywood because it's a common perception that A rated films don't enjoy a wide viewership. Such films also don't get a sizeable word of mouth publicity.
It seems the unprecedented success of 'Grand Masti' will open the floodgates of opportunity for upcoming adult comedies.
