Arvind Pandya has resigned following the Tehelka sting operation.

New Delhi: Gujarat Advocate General Arvind Pandya has resigned as government pleader before the Nanavati Shah Commission which is probing the 2002 riots in the state.

Pandya was quoted as saying in the Tehelka sting operation on the riots that Shah is after money and that no harm would come to the accused.

The Ahmedabad District Magistrate had banned telecast of the TV channels showing the expose on Friday evening, saying the channels were airing the sting operation on the post-Godhra riots in violation of the Cable TV Network regulation Act.

The District Magistrate of Ahmedabad Dhananjay Dwivedi who is also the district election officer directed all cable networks not to show channels like CNN-IBN, IBN 7 and Aaj Tak.

The Tehelka expose accuses state Chief Minister Narendra Modi of directly inciting the riots of 2002 in the state.

Meanwhile, activist Teesta Setalvad has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking speedy trial of the Gujarat riots cases in view of the expose.

She has asked the apex court to use the tapes as evidence and to look at the possibility of witnesses being in danger.
